Marriage of Miss Ethel M. Macklin

The marriage of Miss Ethel M. Macklin, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H.H. Macklin of Buntingford, to Mr T. Oxland, of Coaldale, Alberta, Canada, took place at Lethbridge Church, Alberta, recently.

The bride, who is well known in Buntingford, left for Canada in November last. The bridegroom, who belongs to an old Cornish family, was on a visit to England last summer.

Monk-Jones - Ashford

There was a large attendance at the Buntingford Congregational Church on Wednesday last, when the marriage took place between Miss Elizabeth Sharland Ashford, youngest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H.S. Ashford, J.P., of Layston Cottage, Buntingford, and Mr Norman Monk-Jones, B.A., of Bishops Stortford College.

The officiating clergy were the Rev. H.C. Carter, M.A., of Cambridge, and the Rev. John Cole, of Buntingford.

The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr E.J. Ashford, wore a bridal dress of white crepe de chine, grey shoes and stocking, and black hat, and carried a bouquet of blue cornflowers. She was attended by her sister, Miss N.J. Ashford.

The duties of best man were ably discharged by Mr A. Monk-Jones, brother of the bridegroom.

Mr H. Cutts was at the organ, and played Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." The hymns sung were "The King of Love my Shepherd is" and "Praise my soul the King of Heaven."

A reception was held at the home of the bride, and was attended by upwards of 70 guests. Later, amid hearty congratulations, Mr and Mrs Monk-Jones left for their honeymoon, which is being spent in Brittany.

The wedding presents numbered over 100.

Ten prizes for whist in well-warmed and commodious surroundings, and two hours' dancing on the best floor in the neighbourhood, is good value for 1/6! And this may be obtained at the Whist Drive and Dance next Wednesday, February 2nd, at the Benson Hall, Buntingford.

Tickets may be had from Mr Castle, Mrs Coates, Mr Fry, Mrs Leslie, Miss Marriage (Aspenden), Mr Martin (Wyddiall), Mrs Philpott and others.

Tickets bought before the day carry a chance of a "Lucky Prize." Those wanting Whist or Dance only can pay 1/0 at the door.

Play will start at 7.30 sharp in order to ensure two hours' dancing, and patrons are respectfully asked to be punctual.

Hatchett-Deards - On February 26th, at Layston Parish Church, by the Rev. A. Howard, Vicar, William, only son of Mr and Mrs Hatchett, of New Town, Buntingford, to Annie Gertrude, daughter of Mr and Mrs Deards, of High Street, Buntingford.

Death

Keen - On Wednesday, March 2nd, at Church Street, Buntingford, Stanley Fuller Keen, aged 18 years.

A pretty wedding was solemnized at Layston Parish Church, on Saturday last, February 26th, the contracting parties being Mr William Hatchett and Miss Annie Gertrude Deards, both of Buntingford. The Rev. A. Howard, Vicar of Layston Parish Church, officiated.

Mr Hatchett has been captain of the Buntingford Football Club for four seasons. He has played for the town club since being demobilized from the Army, and has always set a standard of clean sporting play.

The bride, who was attired in cream silk moracain with veil and orange blossom, was attended by two bridesmaids - Miss Hatchett, sister of the bridegroom (who was dressed in Wedgewood blue silk moracain, with hat to match); and Miss Renie Randall, a niece of the bride (who wore a dress of pale blue crepe-de-chine, with pink rose-buds.) She was given away by her father, and the duties of best man were carried by her brother (Mr Leonard Deards).

On leaving the Church, the happy pair arrived at the home of the bridegroom, to receive congratulations from his father and invalid mother, and after the reception - which was held at the home of the bride - journeyed to London for a short honeymoon.

The presents numbered between 40 and 50.

12th Feb 1926 - Wedding

Wedding

There was a large number of persons present at the Congregational Church, Buntingford, on Monday morning last, the occasional being the marriage of Miss Lois Howard, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Howard, and Mr Arthur Dray, both of Buntingford.

Both parties are well known and respected in the town, and are ardent workers for the Congregational Church.

The bridegroom served in France for four years during the war, and was in most of the engagement in which the 2nd Bedford Regiment took part.

The ceremony on Monday was conducted by the Revd. John Cole, and the hymn sung was "O welcome was the call." Mr H. Cutts presided at the organ.

The bride looked well in a grey coat frock with hat and fur to match, and carried a sheaf of arum lillies. She was given away by Mr Henry Howard, her brother. The duties of best man were ably discharged by Mr Albert Dray, brother of the bridegroom.

The wedding breakfast was held at the bride's home, and some 20 to 30 guests were present.

Mr and Mrs Dray were the happy recipients of 80 useful presents.

Dray-Howard - On Monday, February 8th, at the Congregational Church, Buntingford, by the Rev. John Cole, Lois, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Howard, of Buntingford, to Mr A. Dray, also of Buntingford.

GOLDEN WEDDING

Law-Harris - At Caerleon Chirch, on February 9th, 1876, Cordelia, fourth daughter of Mrs and the late Mr G Harris, of Courtymonus Farm Llangottock, to Mr Thomas Law, third son of Mr and Mrs Law, of Moor Green Farm, Corsham.


Miss A.F. Cornwell wishes to thank all friends of Buntingford for their kind symapthy in her sad loss.
