The monthly meeting for October was held on the 13th inst., in the School, and a very good attendance of members had another nice evening.

Business dispensed with, Mr C. Bullard (Letchworth), gave a very good demonstration on basket-making, a hearty vote of thanks being passed to him by Mrs J. Carter.

A memory competition was entered into by quite a large number, Mrs Jarman, Miss N. Carter, and Mrs H. Carter having to cut for the prize, the latter then winning.

Tea was served by Mrs J. Bishop, Mrs Geaves, Mrs Beadle, Mrs Masters, Mrs A. Gilby, and Mrs W. Hagger.

Exchange and Mart (jumble sale) was keenly entered into, and the saleswomen were kept fairly busy for quite a little time.

At the previous monthly meeting, Mrs E.T. Morris, Miss P. Morris, Mrs Masters, Mrs C. Jackson and Mrs H. Carter entertained the members with recitations, singing and music.

Many jolly meetings are looked forward to as a Women's Institute singing class has been formed, and is in the capable hands of Mrs Edridge, of Furneaux Pelham.

Women's Institute

Tuesday, the 9th inst., the November meeting was held in the Town House, with Miss Frances Wilkerson (President) in the chair.

Sir Cecil Neumann gave a very interesting and instructive lecture upon South Africa, which was greatly appreciated. After tea had been served by Mrs G. Chuck and her helpers, Mrs Casbon gave an account of the half-yearly Council meeting of the Herts. Federation which she had attended as delegate.

The President reminded members that voting for the new committee would take place at the next meeting, so their nominations should at once be placed in the box, or during the month, when it would be at the Post Office (by kind permission of Messrs. Hagger & Co.)

A parade of home-made dresses (for which there were unfortunately only four entries), the materials to cost 10s. or under, was then held in which the prize winners were - 1 Miss Darnell, 2 Miss Kate Wilkerson.

The meeting closed with the singing of "Jerusalem," and the National Anthem.

Ladies - 1 Miss P. Jackson, 2 Mrs E. Bunce; Gents - 1 Mr F. Stoten, 2 Mr J. Baker; booby Mr S. Bullard; lucky chair Miss C Norris.

Excellent refreshments were served by the Women's Institute members, to whom the promoters wish to give their best thanks. A large iced cake was raffled, the winnter being Mr W. Gatward. Also a fancy sandwich, containing a lucky charm, given by Mrs Dommett, was won by Miss C. Hagger.

The Mavis Dance Band played splendidly, and a most enjoyable evening ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
