The visit of Commandant and Mrs Joslyn and their two daughters from Forest Hill on Saturday and Sunday last, was another special effort by the Buntingford Branch.

On Saturday evening last the Hall was packed, and the special musical programme was thoroughly enjoyed.

Their chair was taken by Mr H. Rogers, of Hay Street, who referred to the great work the Salvation Army was doing throughout the world. He said he was delighted to see such a packed audience.

The Sunday services were conducted by Commandant and Mrs Joslyn, and on Sunday afternoon there was another musical programme, which was enjoyed by all.

The arrangements for the visit were made by Lieut. Andrews.

A very enjoyable concert was given by members of the Royston Concert Party, under the leadership of Miss M. Rogers and Capt. F.C. Gosden, in the Mission Room, on Thursday, May 5th.

That their efforts to entertain were much appreciated was shown by the number of encores they received, but special mention must be made of the sketch, "Impossible Perkins," which caused roars of laughter.

The Misses Eileen Giffen, Marjorie Kingsley and Dorothy Drage were very enthusiastic in selling programmes and in taking round a mystery box. Various guesses were made as to its contents, Mrs Isaacson eventually being the winner, she having guessed correctly.

The Rector, Rev. H.F. Webb-Bowen, presided, and at the close proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the artists for having given their services, and for the excellent way in which they had rendered the various items on the programme.

Capt. F.C. Gosden, replying for the concert party, said how grateful they were for the Rector's words, and assured the audience that they themselves had much enjoyed the concert.

The room afterwards cleared for dancing, which was indulged in with great zest, Mrs Isaacson being the accompanist.

The concert and dance were arranged by the members of the Social Club, and the proceeds given to the Piano Fund. The proceeds of the concert amounted to £2 9s. 6d. The balance from the dance, after expenses were paid, was 9/-. A further 1/6 was given at the committee meeting, making a total of £3 for the Piano Fund.

Congregational Church Harvest Festival

The Harvest Thanksgiving Services were held on Sunday and Monday last at 6 and 7.15 p.m. respectively. As usual, the Church was prettily decorated, and each service was exceedingly well attended. The ample display of flowers, fruit, vegetables, &c., was proof of the great interest shown in this annual event in the village.

Mr Rogers, of Hay Street, Braughing, conducted the Sunday service, and was assisted by Mr Leader, who gave a very stirring address. God, said Mr Leader, has not broken His promises, and He deserves our praise and thanks not once a year or once a month or once a week, but daily. Harvest time, he continued, should be a stocktaking time for each one of us - a time for examining the fruits of our last sowing and for choosing the seeds for our next.

Mr Rogers spoke on similar lines, and the service closed with the hymn "Sow in the morn thy seed." Mrs Grundy kindly presided at the organ. The collection amounted to 14s. 3 1/2d.

On Monday, Mr Andrew Miller, of Barnet, delivered the address, and was supported by Revd John Cole, of Buntingford, and Mr Harper, of Therfield. Unlike so many earthly promises; said Mr Miller, God's promises were made without repentance and they still stood after 4,000 years as the display of produce before him proved.

Mrs Miller gave two very delightful solos, with autoharp accompaniment, entitled "In the Garden" and "The Love of God." The Buntingford Town Silver Band (under the direction of Mr E.J. Smith) very kindly provided the music for the hymns.

The collection amounted to £2 0s. 3 1/2d. and the sale of produce after the service realised £2 5s. 6d.

The collections and proceeds of sale will be equally divided between the Royston and District Hospital and the Church Funds.
