G. Scarborough Taylor, P.A.S.I., has received instructions from Mr F. Mardell, to sell by auction, at the above, on Wednesday, March 28th, 1928, the motor charabancs, motor cars, landaulettes, together with the entire stock-in-trade of a motor engineer's business, comprising:

1926 Berliet, 35 h.p., 26-seater saloon charabanc; 1924 Berliet, 25 h.p. 20-seater ditto; Austin 20 h.p. Landaulette; Stoewer 13 h.p. ditto; Calthorpe 10.4 h.p. 2-seater, with dickey.

The above are all in perfect running order.

6th August 1926 - Sale - Throcking Hall Farm

Sale

Mr Ernest Jennings, of Saffron Walden, conducted a sale of Throcking Hall Farm on Monday in last week.

The sale was held at the George Hotel, and there were about 20 persons present.

Bidding started at £4,000 and was carried to £5,800 when the Auctioneer stated that the reserve was £6,000 and that the farm would be withdrawn.

The farm was advertised as consisting of 130 acres, and it was stated that there was a good milk round.

Farm Stock Sale

On Thursday in last week, Messrs. Nash, Son & Rowley, auctioneers and tenant-right valuers, of Royston, under instructions of the late Mr F. Ballard, sold by auction on the premises adjoining Hill Side, the live and dead farming stock and household furniture.

An inlaid bow-fronted chest of drawers realised £11, mahogany dining table £9 10s., an 8-day grandfather's clock in oak case £14, a Chippendale wall mirror £14, and an oil painting (coast scene) realised £7 10s.

Amongst the live stock a bay mare sold for 30 guineas, heifers to £23, ad poultry to 5/4 per head.

Note from Alison: Rev. Frederic Percy Harton was born in 1889 and he died in Wells, Somerset in 1959 while out walking.

He was vicar of Ardeley from 1922 to 1926 when he went to spend a year in Ceylon as missionary. Upon his return he was appointed warden of the Sisters of Charity, Knowle, Bristol. In 1936 he became vicar of Baulking in Berkshire, where he remained until he was appointed Dean of Wells.

Sale

On Monday last, Mr G. Scarborough Taylor offered for sale at the George Hotel, Buntingford, the freehold property situate on the Market Hill, and formerly occupied by Mr J. Marvill.

Bids of £50 and £25 carried the bidding to £475 at which price the property was sold to Mrs H.L. Baker, of Buntingford.

The late owner was Mrs F.J. Robinson.
