Wyddiall Garden Fete

Dear Sir,

In the last issue of your paper it was announced that the prize for clock golf was given by Mrs H.C. Marshall. I shall be glad if you will kindly correct this.

The prize for clock golf was kindly given by Mr J. Lawrence and the prize for the balloon race was given by Mrs H.C. Marshall.

Yours faithfully,

L.W. Wright, Rector of Wyddiall.

June 28th, 1926.

Men's Club Formed

On Tuesday evening last, a meeting was held in the schoolroom, the object being to form a Club in the village.

Col. C. Heaton-Ellis, C.B.E., presided, and there was a large attendance.

It was decided to form a Club in the village, and to open the room four nights a week. Mr E. Searle was elected Hon. Secretary, and Mr H. Money, Hon. Treasurer.

It is hoped, also, to arrange a small refreshment bar in the Club Room.

The subscription was fixed at 3/- for the season. Col. Ellis said he was pleased to let the Club have the use of the schoolroom, and he wished it every success.

Magazines would be welcome, and should be sent to the Club Room.

Garden Fete

The Annual Garden Fete, in aid of Foreign Missions, was held in the Rectory Grounds on Wednesday afternoon of last week. The weather was beautifully fine, and the well-kept garden was much admired by all present.

The Fete started at 3 p.m. and closed shortly after 6 p.m. There were three stalls in charge of Mrs Wright, Mrs W.J., Mrs H. and Mrs J. May, Miss Wall and Miss N. Hatchett. Mrs C.H. Poulton and the Misses S. and O. Poulton were in charge of the teas.

Mr W.J. May successfully managed the clock golf competition, Mr Scarborough Taylor winning the prize (given by Mrs H.C. Marshall) with a score of 23. Miss Olive Poulton was in change of a guessing competition, the winner being Mrs W.J. May.

There was also a balloon race for which there were numerous entries; the result of this will be made known later.

The Rev. L.W. Wright also lent valuable assistance and thanked those who had supported the Fete.

The net result was £12 8s. 4.d which was considered very satisfactory.

Among the Clergy present were The Rev. F.R. Williams (Rural Dean), The Rev. A. Howard, The Rev. A. McKerr and The Rev. W.L. Shepherd.

Wedding

A very pretty and interesting wedding took place at St Giles' Church, Wyddiall, on Easter Sunday, the Rev. L.W. Wright officiating.

The interested parties were Mr Albert E. Bonfield, second son of Mr and Mrs S. Bonfield, of Moles Farm, Wyddiall, and Miss V.L. Springham, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Springham, of Waltham Abbey.

The bride looked very pretty in a white satin dress with a wrath of orange blossom and veil. She was given away by her father, Mr A. Springham. Two bridesmaids were in attendance, Miss A. Bonfield (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss M. Oram. Both were prettily dressed. The bride carried a bouquet of lilies.

There were about 60 people in the church to witness the ceremony, and 30 guests were present at the Wedding Breakfast, which was held at the bridegroom's home. The duties of best man were performed by Mr H. Pledger, jun. The wedding presents were numerous and useful, numbering over 60.

The happy couple are leaving Wyddiall shortly to take up their resience at Burnt Mill, Essex.
