Annual Whist Drive

The annual whist drive and and dance, in aid of the Buntingford Tennis Club, was held at the Benson Hall on Easter Monday. Owing to other whist drives in the neighbouring villages there was not such a large gathering as last year.

Twelve tables were in use for whist, and Mr H. Clarke kindly acted M.C. The prize winners were:

Ladies - 1, Miss Morley, 184 (case of pastry forks); 2, Mrs Wallis, 170 (fruit dish); 3, Mrs H. Handy, 170 (box of handkerchiefs).

Gents - 1, Mr W. Watson, 177 (clock); 2, Mr T. Wornham, 171 (pair of etchings); 3, Mr E. Moule, 169 (pair of socks), Lowest score - Mrs Large (Easter egg).

A number came in for dancing after the whist, and the Town Band provided an excellent programme of music. Mr L. Smith was M.C.

Whist Drive

A successful whist drive was held at the Working Men's Club on Wednesday evening.

There were 44 present, and the prize-winners were as follows:

Ladies - 1 Mr W. Watson (playing as lady), 172; 2 Miss L. Clark, 172. Highest score first-half, Mr E. Pledger, 92; lowest, Mr W. Gilby.

Gents - 1 Mr C. Baker, 181; 2 Mr A. Postle, 171. Highest score second half, Mr Francis, 84; lowest, Mr C. Crane.

Mr H. Clark was M.C.

At the whist drive held at the British Legion club on Tuesday evening last, there were 10 tables in use, and the prize-winners were:

Ladies - 1 Miss O. Flynn, 2 Mrs Lawrence. Lowest score - Mr Starr (playing as lady).

Gents - 1 Mr Totman, 2 Mr Watson. Lowest score - Mr Young.

Nursing Fund Whist Drive

A SUCCESSFUL EVENING

Miss Lushington and her many helpers are to be heartily congratulated upon the complete success of their annual whist drive and dance held on Wednesday evening last at Benson Hall, Buntingford.

There was a large gathering, especially for the dancing, Mr E.E. Dennis acted as MC for Whist.

The evening commenced with a whist drive, prizes for which were given by local residents. Twenty-six tables were occupied, and the prizes were presented by Miss Lushington to the following:

Ladies - 1 Mrs D. Capps (umbrella), 2 Mrs Tapper (footwarmer), 3 Miss Cornwell (handkerchiefs).

Gents - 1 Mr Whitby (brush and comb), 2 Mr Gray (case of spoons), 3 Mr Baker (pictures).

Lucky tickets - Mr G. Lindsell (sugar basin) and Mr W. Watson (attache case).

Miss Lushington, in presenting the prizes, thanked the company for their help. The Nursing Association was a most efficient one, and it was pleasing to see such response to the call for help. She would also like to thank those who had assisted to make the annual event so successful (applause).

The Buntingford Town Silver Band was in attendance, and dancing was indulged in until midnight, the excellent dance programme being enjoyed to the full. Mr Leslie Smith acted as M.C. At intervals the Band was relieved by Mr E.E. Dennis (piano) and his dance music was much enjoyed.

At the close, Mr E.E. Dennis proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the band for their services.
