Football

Buntingford played their first match of the season on Saturday last, at Buntingford, defeating Walkern by 6-2.

Aspenden v. Hertford Juniors

Aspenden opened the season on Saturday last, with a fine win at home against the Juniors in the Hertford and District League by five goals to two.

The home team, winning the toss, started with the wind behind them and were soon pressing.

Some fine play on the left wing led to the first goal. Aspenden were easily having the best of the game, and scored three more goals before half-time.

Their defence was playing a sound game, but directly after the change over the Juniors scored. This was followed by a goal to the home reds.

Towards the end the visitors made a fine break-away and scored a good goal.

Folk Dancing Party

The Buntingford Branch of the English Folk Dancing Society has made rapid progress in folk dancing.

On the 9th inst. the Branch had a party at the George Room, when folk dancers from Walkern and Great Munden were also present.

There was a capital programme of these graceful and pretty dances that all enjoyed. Quite a feature of the evening were the special dances by Mrs G. Armstrong and Miss Olive Poulton.

Songs, interspersed with the dances, gave additional pleasure, and were contributed by the Rev. A.G. Langdon, Mrs Hull, and Mr E.E. Dennis.

Country Dancing

The first of a series of meetings of the Buntingford Branch of the English Folk Dance Society was held at the George Hotel on Thursday evening of last week.

There was a good number present, and a company from Walkern came over to join in the evening's pleasure. Miss M. Macklin presided at the piano, and Mr E.E. Dennis made an efficient M.C.

Thanks to Mrs H.L. Baker (the hon. secretary) and Mrs M. Corp (hon. treasurer), the Buntingford branch of this popular society is on a very sound footing, and an attractive programme is promised for the coming season.

Miss G. Pugh, of Ardeley, is the efficient and popular instructress.
