Buntingford v Ickleford Social

On Saturday last Buntingford entertained Ickleford Social in a North Herts League fixture, and being without Thorogood, Birkett and H. May, did well to win by three clear goals.

Ickleford won the toss, and set Buntingford to kick up the slope against a very strong wind. Both goals had narrow escapes, but nothing was scored in the first half.

With the wind at their backs, Buntingford had more of the play in the second half, and a goal was forthcoming through E. Moule, who, receiving a through pass from E. Pledger, scored with a low drive.

Howlett got the second following a melee in front of the visitors' goal, and E. Moule the third.

Under the conditions good football was out of the question, the high wind making the ball very difficult to control.

The Flu

Many cases of flu are reported in the town, and the doctors are having a busy time.

At the Buntingford schools over 70 children were away this week suffering from the epidemic.

To provide for the expenses of the schoolchildren taking part in the forthcoming Folk Dance competition at Ware, there was a dance at the Rectory on Wednesday in last week.

This was organised by Miss Wilderspin and Miss Pugh, while Mrs Beadle was in charge of the refreshments.

There was a good attendance, Mr Beadle was M.C., Mrs Hull pianist, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. A net profit of £2 18s. 6d. was obtained.

Gardening Lectures

The second of a series of four fortnightly gardening lectures was given in the School on the 21st ult., by Mr R.W.B. Keene, of the Herts. Institute of Agriculture.

Mr A. Beadle presided, and in spite of the heavy fall of snow there was a fairly good attendance.

The subject of the lecture was "Seasonable Work in the Vegetable Garden," and at its close there were questions and discussion, in which Messrs. Edwards, Hearn, Hull, Kingsley, and Sanders took part.
